The XX puts on a hypnotizing performance at Red Hat Amphitheater

Deep and calming vocals mixed with multicolored fluorescent lights, upbeat instrumentals and spinning platforms made The XX put on unforgettable performance at Red Hat Amphitheater, one of their final stops on the I See You Tour. The warm weather of the outside venue made the experience all the more enjoyable. The XX opened with white and purple fluorescent lights shining and mirror-like structures spinning behind them as the first notes of “Say Something Loving” began to play. They had the whole crowd cheering and moving right from the start. The rest of their set consisted of hit songs from their second studio album, Coexist, their self-titled record, and I See You, their third studio album.

Though their music may be calming and quiet at times, their show was thrilling. They put little twists to some of their songs, making them very danceable and open for audience involvement. For example, their song “Fiction” is normally slow and low but was performed live at a more upbeat tempo and higher key. The end of the show was absolutely magical. The closed with “Angels,” and that’s exactly how they sounded. This was the only slow song that they kept raw and played with suspense. The finale of beautiful blue and purple fluorescent lights and intense final vocals left the audience in complete awe, raving about the experience for days to come.
