This year marks band director Hagan Zoellers’ final season with the Northwood High School marching band. Zoellers is pursuing a new opportunity to further his career and education.
“I am going to do a master’s degree in wind conducting at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati,” Zoellers said. Zoellers will be both pursuing education and working to educate others. “I’ll be assisting the bands department with a couple of ensembles and also helping out with the Cincinnati youth wind ensemble.”
Zoellers said this marks the next step in his educational and professional career.
“What I’d love to do is eventually teach band at the collegiate level, so the next step for that would be to get a doctorate in musical arts (or DMA) in wind conducting,” he said.
During his time at Northwood, Zoellers has tried to create a legacy of commitment and determination.
“The thing I’ve tried to bring the most is a commitment to excellence and the hard work it takes to get there,” he said. “The amount I have learned from my students is certainly far more than they could have possibly learned from me. The sense of community, the true love that I see people have for each other here in the way that the community takes care of itself and the kids here is super special.”
