Northwood Athletes Share Outlook for ’21-’22 Sports
As Northwood students begin to settle in comfortably to their new class schedules, clubs and extracurricular activities, the fall sports season is back in full force. Games for most athletics are already underway, with a full list of events to buy tickets for, and a growing prominence of jerseys in the hallways. A few student athletes spoke with The Omniscient about how they feel about their personal athletic performance and this year’s outlook for their teams.
Northwood Girls Golf Team Wins Big 8 Championship, Jordan Named Player of the Year
On Monday, April 26, the Northwood Girls Golf Team traveled to Durham for the Big 8 Championship. Northwood’s team won the tournament and two other accolades.
Northwood Varsity Football Team Has Successful Season, Proceeds To Playoffs
This spring season, the Northwood Charger Varsity Football Team has 48 players on the roster and seven coaches in total, one of them being Head Coach Cullen Homolka.

Jake Mann, Northwood Senior and ESPN/Kohl’s #1 Ranked Long Snapper, Commits to the University of Oklahoma
Jake Mann, Northwood senior and member of the Northwood Varsity Football Team announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma on Feb. 3 on Twitter. This announcement comes after his original decision to commit to Florida State back in April of 2020.

Northwood’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have both had historic runs this year, especially in the playoff season.
Womens’ Swim Team Places Third in Big 8 Conference, Mens’ Swim Team Places Fifth
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Northwood’s Varsity Swim Team traveled to the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC to compete in the Big 8 Conference Meet. The men finished fifth overall and the women finished third overall. Junior Mia Corrado tied for the most individual points scored for women’s swimming, which makes her one of the Big 8 Conference Women’s Swimmers of the Year.
What’s Going on with Spring Sports?
It’s that time of year again–as winter comes to an end, Northwood is preparing for the spring sports season of the 2020-2021 school year. Some fall sports that were cancelled because of Covid-19 have returned to practice. Continue reading for updates on sports being offered during the spring season.
