The Patriots play The Rams in this year’s Superbowl

Sunday Feb. 3, the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams are facing off at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the biggest football game of the year.

The Patriots and the Rams have both competed in previous Superbowls; the Rams only winning one National Football League [NFL] championship in 2000, while the Patriots have won a total of five NFL championships: 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017.

“I’m kinda tired of seeing the Patriots in the Superbowl,” said senior Adam Rimolt. “They are always in games and it’s kinda boring seeing them in the Superbowl so much.”

In the past, the Patriots have had a bad reputation in the media for cheating in Superbowl LI.

“Tom Brady is a cheater,” said senior Taylor Snively. “There was a scandal a couple years ago where he deflated the balls which negatively impacted their opponents.”

Although the rumors about the Patriots cheating are not proven to be true, it influenced a lot of hatred for the team.

“The Patriots have won so many times in a row, we have proof of them cheating and they are not a good team so they shouldn’t win,” said junior Lena Thorne. “Rams all the way in this Superbowl.”

While Thorne believes the Patriots shouldn’t win this Superbowl, Rimolt predicts that, even though he doesn’t like the Patriots, they will win the Superbowl.

“They are good enough to be there fair and square but it is just boring to see them every time,” said Rimolt. “I am cheering for the Rams but the Patriots will probably win.”

Two other major reasons that people watch the Superbowl is for the commercials and the half-time show. According to the CBS, this year’s half-time show performers consist of Maroon 5,  who is the headliner, followed by Travis Scott and Big Boi.

A handful of companies have also released sneak peeks or teasers of their commercials that will air during this years Superbowl. There will be recurring products such as Pepsi, Doritos and Amazon which were some of the most viewed commercials last year.

Make sure to tune in on Sunday and watch the Superbowl!
