“Anxiety,” Fourth Poem Highlighted In Omniscient And NEHS Partnership

In this series published by The Northwood Omniscient, works of writing by Northwood’s National English Honor Society will be highlighted. The fourth piece to be highlighted is written by Northwood senior Ellie Tarlton.

“Anxiety”

I feel an anvil on my chest,

The noise encompasses me.

I feel no escape.

The people surrounding me hold me hostage,

Strangers strangle my freedom.

I feel no escape.

Fire shoots up my feet and travels through my body,

My feet are glued to the ground.

I feel no escape.

My eyes begin to well up with tears

While my hands continue their fidgeting dance.

I feel no escape.

My brain tells me “go while you can”

Beside “just hold out a little longer”.

There is no escape.
