October ’21 Happenings Around North Carolina

As spooky season is in full swing, talk of haunted houses and the scent of pumpkin-flavored food swirl about in the autumn air. North Carolina offers many attractions and entertainment in the month of October, from pumpkin patch rides to frights in the night. Several events are listed below as suggestions for your next pre-Halloween adventure.

Riverbend Farm: An attraction only open in October, Riverbend Farm is most known for its expansive pumpkin patch. They offer wagon ride tours through their acres upon acres of pumpkins. They also have a farm-themed playground for young children, making it a must-see for all. Admission is $5.50.

Carolina Renaissance Festival: Occurring for 8 weekends in a row in October and November, the Renaissance festival is a 16th century-based event featuring local artists, themed rides, performances, and more. The fashion is truly something to behold–large dresses and knight’s outfits as far as the eye can see. If you’re a history buff, this is the place to visit. Admission is $27.

Carolina Kite Fest: Want to see a beautiful show in the sky? Carolina Kite Fest will be taking place in Atlantic beach Oct. 23 and 24, hundreds of kites blowing in the wind above head. It is free to attend, and even if you don’t fly a kite yourself, the show is worth the wait.

Puffs: Put on by a total of 19 lucky students, Puffs by Matt Cox will be shown Oct. 21-23 at 7:00 PM in the Northwood auditorium. The Omniscient will post a full story later this week detailing the behind-the-scenes work of the cast and drama department in our January print issue! Tickets are available to purchase here.

Northwood’s Trail of Terror: If you haven’t heard already, Northwood’s Trail of Terror has been announced for Oct. 28 at 6:30. The Trail of Terror is an annual Northwood event where students and their peers walk through the hiking trail in the woods around the school and get a scare. Check out staff writer Revy Godehn’s story on the event here!

North Carolina Haunted Farm: Named the best haunted house in the state, the Haunted Farm is open all Fridays, Saturdays, and most Sundays in October and November and is located in Hendersonville near Asheville, NC. The rich array of both lore and scares as part of the attraction has earned the event various accolades from attendees and news outlets alike. Tickets are $30.
