Pitch Please Harmonizes at Winter Concert, Reflects on Semester

Northwood’s acapella group Pitch Please finished off their first semester singing in the Winter Vocal Concert on Dec. 16, 2021. Practices this school year have been on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school to prepare for the concert and will continue until the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

“I was so excited [for the vocal concert]!” junior Isabella Papendieck said. “It was my first concert with Pitch Please and I was ready to make it memorable. We all worked so hard and were very committed.”

The members of Pitch Please shared what they love about the club with The Omniscient.

“My favorite thing about Pitch Please is the sense of family,” junior Meghan Farrell said. “Every year there are new people [in Pitch Please] which brings a new group dynamic. We’ve always tried to make sure everyone gets along with everyone.”

Others agree that the sense of family is their favorite aspect of the club, and that the group can communicate well with one another.

“My favorite thing about Pitch Please is the people,” junior Mi-Yana Fearrington said. “We put in hard work and get a great result, and it makes all of us happy because we’re all passionate about music.”

“Our group is good at coming together and communicating our concerns in a healthy way,” sophomore Quinn Hennessey said. “We’ve had disagreements in the past but they’re able to be resolved quickly because we talk to each other and we try to be honest and civil.”

“We are able to replace the sound of music with our voices, yet still be able to create the illusion of music, which I think is cool,” Fearrington said.

Members also offered advice to students wanting to join Pitch Please.

“If there is any advice I would give to future members, I would say to have confidence and trust your ability to succeed,” Fearrington said.

“Take your chance!” Papendieck said. “Pitch Please has been such an amazing home for me to do what I love. I enjoy the music style a lot. I have never done acapella before, and I’ve really enjoyed it this year.”
