On Saturday Jan. 23, the Northwood Boys’ Cross Country team and Northwood junior Caroline Murrell competed at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A State Competition at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex. Murrell placed tenth individually and the Boys’ team placed eighth overall.
Northwood High School’s clubs have put together many fundraisers that stretch from Nov. through the month of December. It is important to give back to those in need, especially since the coronavirus pandemic has affected many in our country and local community. Consider donating or participating in one or more of these efforts to spread the joy this holiday season.

Near the end of the first six weeks of the school year, Northwood English teacher Rachel Donnald decided to give her students an extra credit opportunity in which they would participate in a game of “Among Us” via a Zoom meeting to practice their listening and speaking skills. Since then, the small gathering of English students has evolved into a gaming club.

Aug. 26, 2020 marked four years since former 49ers star quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, began protesting police brutality against Black people in America. This year on Aug. 26, the Miluakee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) refused to come to the court to play their game, three Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) playoff games and three Major League Baseball (MLB) games were postponed. The teams did this to honor Jacob Blake, a victim of police brutality.
